Turning AI Ambition into Action in Software

Accelerating the Circular Economy with AI

When StruSoft Group Head of IT attended a NordAxon AI Inspirational Fika session in the spring of 2025, neither company expected it would mark the beginning of a strategic AI partnership.

The two companies were already neighbours, sharing the same office building in Malmö. After the event, a short conversation between StruSoft Group´s Head of IT and NordAxon's CEO led to a follow-up meeting with StruSoft Group leadership team. Within weeks, plans were in motion.

What followed was not a single AI project, but a wide-ranging partner collaboration across strategy, product development, organizational learning, and capability building.

Starting with the Right Questions

As a global provider of engineering software with operations in 14 countries, StruSoft Group has always been driven by innovation. With AI rapidly reshaping the software industry, the company saw an opportunity to strengthen both its products and its organization.

"We want to be a leader within this field. That's why it's a strategic priority for us at StruSoft Group," says Niklas Gustavsson, CEO of StruSoft Group. "We were looking for consultancy with subject matter experts and not a generic consultancy firm."

Rather than jumping directly into implementation, the partnership began with a series of AI Discovery Workshops involving multiple StruSoft Group business units. Together, teams explored opportunities, evaluated use cases, and identified where AI could create the greatest value for both the business and its customers.

The workshops helped establish a shared roadmap and quickly highlighted several opportunities worth pursuing.

Bringing AI into Engineering Software

One challenge stood out early.

Over more than 30 years, StruSoft Group had built a significant knowledge base of technical documentation, product guides, engineering expertise, and support material. While this knowledge was invaluable, accessing it efficiently could be difficult for users navigating increasingly advanced software products.

"Our software has grown a lot during the last 30 years", explains Geoffrey Decan, Group AI Lead at StruSoft Group. "Users who have been with us for a long time are not always aware of all our functionalities. Having a better way to access functionality was our first priority."

To address this challenge, NordAxon designed and implemented a modular AI Assistant Framework that would become the foundation for future AI capabilities across StruSoft Group´s product portfolio.

The first assistant built on the platform was Lexi, an AI-powered knowledge assistant integrated directly into Diamonds. By combining modern RAG architecture with BuildSoft's product knowledge, Lexi enables engineers to ask questions in natural language and receive contextual answers directly inside the software.

Today, the platform supports users across Europe and serves as the foundation for additional AI assistants already under development.

For StruSoft Group, this was only the beginning.

"The ChatGPT generation has started," says Geoffrey. "They expect these types of interfaces to exist in software and to interact with engineering software in this way."

Building Knowledge Across the Organization

A key part of the collaboration was ensuring that AI expertise wasn't limited to a single team or project.

Over the course of the year, NordAxon delivered AI training programs to StruSoft Group developers across Europe, Australia, and India. The sessions covered everything from Machine Learning fundamentals and Large Language Models to RAG architectures, MLOps, and modern AI engineering practices.

To complement the training, NordAxon also delivered hands-on workshops focused on building production-ready AI assistants and agentic AI solutions. At the same time, employees across the broader organization participated in AI awareness sessions designed to create a common understanding of how AI is transforming products, workflows, and business processes.

The goal was not only to implement AI solutions, but also to strengthen StruSoft Group´s ability to continue driving innovation independently.

A Partnership Built on Complementary Strengths

One reason the collaboration has been successful is the clear alignment of responsibilities.

As an AEC tech provider, StruSoft Group brought deep product knowledge, engineering expertise, and understanding of customer needs. NordAxon contributed specialized expertise in AI, Machine Learning, and modern AI architectures.

"As a software company ourselves, we controlled the user interface and software development," Geoffrey explains. "We wanted NordAxon to focus on their specialty, which is AI and Machine Learning."

That combination allowed both organizations to focus on their strengths while moving quickly from strategy to implementation.

"The collaboration has always been very helpful," Geoffrey says. "The people at NordAxon are very knowledgeable and very willing to help find new solutions to problems. There is good communication and good collaboration, which is very important for us."

One Year of Progress — and Just Getting Started

Looking back, the pace of development has been remarkable.

In just twelve months, the partnership has grown from an initial conversation into a company-wide AI journey that includes strategic AI discovery workshops, a production-ready AI framework, multiple AI assistants, global AI developer training and AI awareness workshops.

For Niklas, the value of the partnership is clear.

"NordAxon has added capabilities that we don't have internally. Their expertise in Machine Learning and AI has made a huge impact."

With new AI assistants already in development and AI becoming an increasingly important part of the engineering software landscape, the collaboration continues to evolve. What began as a conversation after an AI event has become a long-term partnership helping StruSoft Group shape the future of its products, its people, and its industry.
